Receiving Site Spotlight: Supporting Families with Holy Family Day Home

Since 2022, Simply the Basics has partnered with Holy Family Day Home, a San Francisco school providing early childhood education and wraparound support to families living with limited income or experiencing homelessness. Together, we’ve worked to ensure families have access to the essential hygiene products they need to support their health, confidence, and success, so that children can come to school ready to learn, make friends, and thrive while parents can focus on work, family, and building toward their goals.

Through our partnership, Holy Family Day Home has received hygiene kits, diapers, and bulk supplies, always with the ability to choose the products that best meet their families’ wellness needs. We’ve also hosted Hygiene Markets on-site, where parents “shop” for free hygiene items in a welcoming environment that reinforces choice and care.

The cost of hygiene and household products for a whole family can sometimes mean making hard chooses between what you can and can not afford - such as shampoo, menstrual care, or a meal that evening. Too often, families are forced to forgo these essential items that are critical for daily health, confidence, and well-being Simply the Basics Public Hygiene Markets provide all these items and more at no cost so families can "shop" and choose the best products for themselves and their kids. With so many kids, you may be able to guess that bandaids, sunscreen, and laundry soap were one of the most popular items during our market!

When thinking about the importance of community partners working together, one story especially highlights the impact: A single mother whose daughter faced a medical issue had to keep her child home from school for several weeks. Unable to attend Holy Family’s Clothing Program or Farmers’ Market in person, she relied on staff to bring groceries, diapers, and other essentials directly to her home. Thanks to Simply the Basics’ diaper donations, her family’s needs were met during a particularly difficult time.
