Action During Period Poverty Awareness Week

During Period Poverty Awareness Week, our hygiene bank took action to address the issue of menstrual health and hygiene inequities. With the help of some incredible and dedicated volunteers, we assembled over 700 menstrual care packs that contained essential items like pads, tampons, and wipes. Our menstrual care packs are designed to provide people in need with the necessary resources to support their menstrual cycle with dignity and comfort - making a tangible difference in the lives of those who might otherwise go without.

In addition to assembling menstrual care packs, Simply the Basics attended a Menstrual Health Celebration hosted by the Women’s Building to bring awareness to the progress and continued fight towards menstrual equity. Simply the Basics distributed the assembled menstrual care products to girls, women, families, and menstruators in need, at no cost and at no limits! Community members were invited to come and choose the supplies they needed and also learn more about our Hygiene Locator for continued access to care.

Through the event, speaking to our community and other nonprofits in the space, we were able to help raise awareness about the issue of period poverty and how more individuals and nonprofits can be supported by Simply the Basics. The Women’s Building also hosted educational resources about menstrual health and hygiene to help people better understand and manage their menstrual cycles.

We are so grateful to our volunteers, donors, and supporters who help make activities and impact such as this possible, and we remain committed to advocating for menstrual health and hygiene for all.
